I agree with Donna's statement that kid's will rise up and meet the challenge of the new class. Kids LOVE this kind of stuff and experts they will become when they are also in charge of teaching it to the class! All these new tools available via the web makes me miss teaching technology classes!

Loving this post. My little wheels are a-spin. And not in the "ice on the road, no traction" way.

One challenge I'm mulling over is the huge disparity I see amongst my students (high school juniors and seniors) in terms of their tech-savvy when they get to me.

And I'm not a tech teacher. At least not officially.

Thank you, and please keep thinking out loud. I'm over here listening.

I say "Why not?" too! If you have great ideas, I am game! I think it could be great - too bad school is structured in such a way that it is tough to control (105 students is too much.)

Well, I still say why not! I see a new course we are adding next year that will fit perfectly with this idea. Students could lead our new discussion / socratic seminar next year by selecting topics or "Conversation Threads" to investigate. The students will investigate a subject of interest, will lead the class as the expert, and produce podcasts or You Tube Videos, etc. to share that information. Of course the other classmembers will develop a wiki or whatever the newest technology teaching tool might be next year.
What a flexible and exciting course this will be!

And I know the students will rise to meet this challenge since this is their "world" and their future.

One of my favorite sayings is "Life is constantly changing; you must change with it or be left behind." You know me, I do not want to be left behind!
